This glorious new CD features
two important 19th-century Masses. Rutter’s Mass in D was the
first Mass known to be written for St Francis’ Choir and is full of
interesting writing. It is performed here in Roger Heagney’s
orchestrated version conducted by Richard Divall. Gounod’s uplifting
St Cecilia Mass is a long-time favourite of the choir and is
conducted by Roger Heagney.

SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS
(AUDIO CD)
A CD titled Sounds of Christmas
was launched by the St Francis’ Choir in 1996. It comprises traditional
carols, unusual carols, and other liturgical music. The CD was recorded
over a 12-year period in St Francis’ Church, Sacred Heart Church,
Melbourne and Move Records studio. The choir was directed by Roger
Heagney, and the Canzona Brass by John Schmidli.

This beautiful recording has been released to
mark the 160th anniversary of the foundation of the St Francis’ Choir.
Four favourite masses are included in the double CD—Mozart’s

Nelson Mass and Missa in tempore belli. These performances,
taken from the choir’s sound archive, are conducted by Richard Divall

A book titled Echoes of
Home – Music at St Francis' 1845-1995 was published in 1995 and is
available in paperback. It details the impressive history of music at St
Francis’ Church. The book was written by John Byrne, a member of the
choir for over 30 years. John is an historian and archivist who holds
degrees in Music and the Arts, and has studied in Vienna.
